Narrative Treatment

The two timelines that make up the series allow us to travel with anagile and vast and open overview of eventsbetween the immediate,close to the present and intermingled withthose of past events.
The flash back feature is used regularly, but of relevance to the story and in a balanced way without creating confusion to the viewer. It encompasses relevant facts and situations that are narrated in diverse and alternating points of view between the main characters. The rhythm is entertaining and always moving the story forward. Each episode moves the continuity of the story and unravels partial stories that are full of emotion and charged with profound drama. Each episode ends with a cliffhanger full of intrigue and suspense. Fragmentation and parallel sequences give the necessary cadence to the genre of the series. In this thriller, action, suspense and intrigue are combined with the psychological introspection of each protagonist.

Not everything that is mentioned in the dialogue is what the characters think and thus, this hidden element, which is expressed later and as the story progresses with unpredictable actions in which the true intentions or motives are progressively revealed to the spectator’s surprise. The characters are full of color and tone, necessary to characterize the varied and complex personalities and their relationships with elements such as; power, affection, hatred, passion, admiration, submission or rebellion that occur between them. No one is either good or absolute bad and their verbal expressions, corporate behavior, silenced or muted responses, doubts or certainties and expressions of anger and violence, give evidence of their characteristic features and states of mind in each of the players in this multi-layered saga.
In the spatial environment, which is the adjacent subtext, the film is expressed in its physical and cultural geographies where the facts and actions take place and the general plot unfolds. Each location fulfills a narrative function and is not gratuitous as it travels in time and space, offering the universality and cosmopolitan perspective of the story. The cross over stories that transverse the narrative and also guarantees the balance thereof, as well as the dramatic progression of the series are a group of elements in which the following aspects stand out:

• Emotional imprints and filial factors in which the concepts of love, family, friendships, lust and blood covenantsare inherent in the central character of Joaquin’s immediate circle.El Chapo’s complex, almost silent, enigmatic and unpredictable behavior that is loaded with diverse visions and imprints according to the circumstances and characteristics of events unfolding around him.
• The monumental and quasi-limitless magnitude of Joaquin’s drug trafficking business, together with all of its stages, facets and edges that lead to the multi-million dollar enrichment of emerging characters such as local dealers and other providers of these fortunes like the corrupt officials and authorities as well as venal bankers and other entrepreneurs who contribute to the expeditious and transcontinental transits through the elicit financial grids.
• The escapism and constant running from the law and his enemies of Joaquin, not only spectacularly from máximum security prisons but also with his almost inexhasutible sagacity to become “invisible” in the Sierra mountains of his Sinaloan roots as well as other regions of Mexico and continue to do business and structure a global empire of drug trafficking in this constant dynamic.
• The tools of curruption and bribery in all parts of the world as a method that facilitates drug frafficking and marketing touches a myriad of characters including; Mexican authorities & officials, politicians, judges, pólice entities, intelligance agencies not to metion entire governments.
• The magnitude of the operational, technical, technological and human logistics that encompasses the commercial and financial chain of traffic, summons millions of operators, organizations, places, work systems, mechanisms of collection, processing, reception, distribution and monetary returns is very complex. This structure functions in five continents successfuly and is due to, and founded by Joaquin’s leadership which he has excercised for decades.
• The series is a deep immersion in a world that will generate reflections with the spectator and which will de-mask the true orchestrators and beneficiaries in a business which is not known to many outside of it.
• The uselessness of this war, manipulated in the media communications and various messages, is hidden and obscures the multiple interests of this tragic, corrupt and costly endeavor which results in an absurd and often unecessary loss of lives and the devastation of entire generatons. Itistruly a historicalburdenforhumanity.

The relevance or otherwise of the drug prohibition concept by the authorities is the order of the day. The double standards of the institutions and governments and justice agreements drive dark negotiations. A bustling business that requires the constant supply of former combatants to their new war machine that is fed back day by day. This is a was in which the victims always increase exponentially. Why does it then continue? Why has society not been able to deal with it or contain it? Do they actually want to? Perhaps more unacceptable enrichments of many with the seal of the empires and characters, side by side, like shown in these two episodic seasons. Nobody will remain indifferent.
