This episodic series has a color palette for each timeline as well as for each of the different geographic locations. In the first one, which we call the present-time line; the predominant colors aremainly blues that combine the celestial brightness of the northwest light (prominent Sinaloa District in Mexico) with a range of similar tones that insinuate permanent modernity and in turn generate chromatic bonds of that fringe (blues, violets and purple) and throughout the different geographical locations where the parallel histories are carried outin five different continents.
The second time line, which we will call “earlier period”, is based on the ochre color and earth tones similar to the natural ranges found in the Sierra Madre Noroccidental, which comes from the aridity and the stupor of the heat from the area. These are expressed in the tone and shine& brightness used. The range of yellows to coffee-tints, is intermingled with stronger and closer to the orange and green colors, generating visual links with other Latin American countries and with the wide border area with the USA.
Each prevailing palette used in the timelines is mixed with red and magenta tones in periods and areas where there are tragic and bloody events and episodes.
To achieve a visual balance and dramatically highlight the vertiginous rhythm of the story, a combination of closed and lateralized frames of the characters is established in which the visual aspects also provide meaningful information to the viewer.
A varied and necessary list of rural and urban spaces (houses, ranches, caves, etc) combine, join and interconnect as events are narrated and where the greater parts of the story occur. There is constant transit between the wild and the exuberant as well as many natural environments of various countries and modern spaces and also monumental city scapes.
On a permanent and continuous basis the environments are nuanced and enriched with a production design in which the locations, setting, scenery, props, costumes and makeup characterize in detail historical periods, character and personality traits of the characters, types and forms of life, tastes, preferences as well as aesthetic tendencies and habits.
The extravagance, the luxuries and the kitsch of some of the protagonists, contrasts with the glamor and elegance of others, these differences generate visual richness and universality at the same time. Technological modernity, military ostentation, monetary flow, and the variety of means of transportation complement and underline the spatial and individual universes, adding to the integral and attractive concept of the visual design of this saga.
The choreographic sequences based on various movements of the actors in the movie supports much of the story. The movements and placement of camreras with a certain level of complexity (zenith, nadir, chopped, etc. ) complement the rhythm, tone and atmosphere shown. This summation of elements aim at a very high visual artistic value that united with the structure and narrative treatment and the staging materialize the main objective of this project.
